Tom Ford 2011 – Master of Vintage

Tom Ford is one of the few presently living creative directors with no formal art education. He is a business man. His approach to designing clothing and accessories is driven by what people need and want as oppose to what designer thinks looks good. Perhaps this is one of the reasons why Tom Ford sunglasses are among the most sellable in the world. When designing sunglasses, Tom Ford put a lot of emphasis on the shape. Some of them are pretty wild, like exaggerated cat eye or perfect round. But generally, shapes are moderate – they look good. There is also very little branding on the arms, and why bother when everyone would be looking at the face any ways.

Tom Ford's 2011 style is a bit similar to British Paul Smith. He goes vintage, not only by design but also quality. The more minimalistic the assessory is, the less things there to break and the more timeless it will be. As a perfect marketer, Tom Ford has developed a style that now carries his name. It is a style of minimalistic perfection. Enjoy the 2011 collection.
